Saturday hundreds gathered at Government Plaza downtown to take the Tuscaloosa Krispy Kreme Challenge. The 2nd annual event to benefit to Big Brothers Big Sister of West Alabama brings the challenge of running one mile, eat twelve doughnuts, and then run another mile.

Why do it? It's something crazy, funny and out of the ordinary. Those are reasons I give for doing it. However, my stomach would describe it differently. That would be something like, it's painful and stop now! The challenge really fits into the mindset of your typical runner or adventurous person willing to try the extreme. This is that. Yet, as the Tuscaloosa News so perfectly called it being, 'pleasantly miserable.'

As for my run, the first mile was great. Then, it was doughnut time. The first 3, no problem. Number 4, a little harder. I then thought, why not try to eat the other 8 all at once. Like, a corn cob, as pictured below. I do have my game face and I'm ready!

It was not easy. I ended up rolling those doughnuts into a massive ball and attempted to just shove and shove down my throat. A lady from the news paper apparently found it amusing as she took a picture of this no shame act.

I finished those doughnuts and began my one mile trek to the finish line. People ask, what did that fell like. I would say, imagine it is Thanksgiving and you just finished eating and instead of waiting to eat pie, you go ahead eat an entire pie. Then, you decide to run. You feel sluggish from being so full as you burp repeatedly. That's a strange feeling, as you run and breathe heavier from that activity, you're also burping. I guess, that's better than farting or a combination. Ugh.

I did finish, as I flash my medal. My badge of glory for completing this outrageous challenge.

The next morning, a friend sends a text saying that I've made the cover of The Tuscaloosa News. What? I grab a copy and sure enough! How funny, it's a picture of me forcing a balled up 8 doughnuts down my throat. I've never been on the cover of anything, except maybe my school newspaper, so this is pretty cool. Even if it is a challenged look to eat the ball of doughnuts.
