A woman was hospitalized Wednesday night after she was shot during an argument, police said Thursday morning.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers were called to the 1900 block of 29th Street around 8 p.m. Wednesday night. They found a single victim had been shot once, and she was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment of wounds that Kennedy said were not life-threatening.

Responding officers also stopped a woman leaving the area, and upon investigation, determined that she was the shooter they were looking for.

Kennedy said police believe the suspect, Claudia Ann Key, got into a fight with the victim, left the area and returned a short time later with a handgun. Key allegedly shot the victim one time and left the area before being stopped by police.

After investigators processed the scene, collected evidence and conducted interviews with victim and witnesses, Key was charged with one count of attempted murder and booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $60,000 bond. She remained there Thursday morning.

This shooting marks the third night in a row that someone has been hurt or killed by gun violence in Tuscaloosa this week.
