More Hot, Humid and Dangerous Heat Index Conditions for Tuscaloosa, Alabama

The heat is showing no signs of letting up today. The National Weather Service Birmingham has a heat advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, August 11, 2021. These dangerous heat levels will affect most of Central Alabama, where heat index values could reach 105 degrees.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham wants you to take precautionary steps during this time. They encourage you to “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”

We should expect Typical August weather, said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist. These conditions will “continue across Alabama through Saturday with hot, humid days and random, scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.”

The NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center August 2021 Climate Outlook notes that the southeast is “favored to observe a wetter-than-average August.” Also, that our region should expect the “beginning of August is a wet one. And even though things are not expected to be nearly as wet in the region for the rest of the month, the sheer amount of rain that could fall during the first week helps to tilt odds to a wetter-than-average month.”
