Firehouse Subs Coming Next to New Northport Planet Fitness
The planned shopping center planned around the Planet Fitness gym coming to Northport has another tenant in Firehouse Subs, city councilman Jeff Hogg announced Monday morning.
Hogg was elected to represent Northport's District 5 in 2016 and co-chairs its retail development committee. A top priority for Hogg and the incumbent council has been to recruit new restaurants and retailers to set up shop in the city.
The city scored a major victory in February when they announced that developer Inge Beeker would level the shops next to the Northport Civic Center on McFarland Boulevard and build a Planet Fitness gym there as the anchor of a new and improved shopping center.
Hogg said the 24-hour fitness center and Firehouse Subs should both be open in late 2020 or early 2021.
"In the midst of the uncertainty of everything currently going on in the world, our citizens need some positivity and something to look forward to," Hogg told Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa. "Although it has been a slow process over the last few months, our Retail Committee has continued to work nonstop throughout this pandemic to attract quality businesses to our City."
The city of Northport will hold its municipal elections next month, and Hogg is seeking re-election. He said Monday that if he wins the office again, he will continue to seek to bring new businesses and restaurants into Northport.
"Since elected in 2016, I promised the citizens of Northport that I would make it a personal mission to recruit new business to our City," Hogg said. "I have not taken that lightly. If given the chance again, we will do all we can for the next four years to continue the progress."
