Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Walks Off Teammate Devonta Smith’s Charity Softball Game

It was a banner day for former Alabama quarterbacks on June 5, as the Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts hit a two-run home run to give Team Smith the 13-12 win in teammate and 2020 Heisman winner Devonta Smith's charity softball game.

Smith, who was also Hurts's teammate at Alabama, hosted the game in Allentown, Pennsylvania, at the home ballpark of the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs. Proceeds for the contest are set to benefit St. Lukes University Health Charities, as well as IronPig Charities.

Hurts also pitched in the game, and apparently decided that a tie would not be a fitting end to the exhibition. He sent the ball over the right field fence and was swarmed by his teammates before he even reached first base.

A.J. Brown, a 2016 draftee of the San Diego Padres, was also on Team Smith and won the event's home run derby. Brown joined the Eagles via trade from the Tennessee Titans during this offseason's NFL Draft.

Other Crimson Tide alums present included Mack Wilson and Jaylen Waddle, both of whom were on the losing team, captained by the Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons. Parsons lost to Brown in the derby.

In addition to the Eagles, Pennsylvania's second NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, also had a player in the game, safety Terrell Edmunds.

Smith said events such as the charity game go a long way for team chemistry. "The better the connection you have off the field, the better it is on the field."

He also stressed the importance of helping the community in any way possible.

"We are just finding a way to give back to the community and be able to help anybody any way you can," he said. "Being where I'm from, being able to give back to the community is big."
