Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts enters a pressured packed year as questions loom about the future of the position beyond the 2022 season.

With all of the outside noise, Hurts can only focus on what he can control — which is his performance on the field.

He went 10-of-11 with two touchdowns and no interceptions during the 7-on-7 portion. Hurts completed two 40-yard passes to DeVonta Smith and hit Deon Cain for another big completion on a deep post.

Although it’s only organized team activities in June, the key for Hurts heading into his third season is his continued development as a passer and decision-maker.

The 23-year-old signal caller has been working on his throwing mechanics with Tom House — a quarterback guru in Southern California. House was Drew Brees’ throwing coach and currently works with Tom Brady. Hurts spent a lot of time learning from the seven-time Super Bowl champion this offseason.

You can see he is quicker and tighter with his footwork and mechanics than he was a year ago.

Philadelphia added to Hurts’ arsenal this offseason when they acquired wide receiver AJ Brown from the Tennessee Titans. Brown has recorded two 1,000-yard seasons in his first three seasons in the NFL.

Hurts will be working with the same play caller for the second year in a row for the first time since high school. Shane Steichen became the primary play-caller halfway through last season.

“He’s always in the film room, that’s one of his assets,” said Steichen of Hurts. “He’s relentless in that regard.”

Hurts has always had a worker’s mindset dating back to his days at Channelview High School in Texas.

“He just has a relentless effort to be great,” said Steichen. “Every approach he takes — he doesn’t have an offseason…he’s continuing to grow as a player, as a leader, every single day.”
