Collin Sexton To Miss Remainder Of Season With Injury

Cavaliers point guard Collin Sexton will miss the remainder of the 2021-2022 NBA season, as he is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a torn left meniscus, per Adrian Wojnarowski. The former Alabama star has spent the last six games on the bench as he was being evaluated for the torn meniscus, but Sexton and the team doctors have determined that surgery will be necessary.

The injury will stunt the Cavaliers season as they started off as one of the league’s sleeper teams, but since the loss of Sexton on November 7th, Cleveland has failed to put up 100 points in any game and have gone 2-4 during the stretch. Sexton is coming off a career year, averaging 24 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds per game. All career highs. 

The Cavaliers have been waiting for Sexton to break out into the star they drafted out of Alabama, and 2021 was looking like that year, but the breakout season will have to be put on the shelf. The man known as the “Young Bull” was a star for the Crimson Tide under former head coach Avery Johnson. Sexton averaged 19 points per game and was drafted by the Cavaliers with the 8th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft after only one year with the Tide.

Sexton is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, which makes an injury that much more painful in a contract year. Many Alabama fans have voiced their opinions on getting Sexton out of Cleveland so he can truly blossom into the point guard that led Alabama to the 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
