The University of Alabama is expecting to hire Bill O'Brien as its new offensive coordinator, according to Bruce Feldmen of The Athletic. O'Brien is expected to replace the departing Steve Sarkisian who is leaving Alabama to assume the head coaching job at the University of Texas.

Sarkisian set an NCAA record 24-games in a row scoring 35 points or more for the Crimson Tide leaves a high standard for any new offensive coordinator. O'Brien is likely up for the challenge having extensive experience as a college and NFL head coach. O'Brien served as head coach at Penn State and for the Houston Texans, he also has ties to Nick Saban having served as offensive coordinator for Saban's good friend, Bill Belichick for the New England Patriots.

O'Brien was most recently fired as head coach and general manager for the Houston Texans after losing the first four games of the season. O'Brien was 52-48 in a little more than six seasons as Texans head coach, he was 15-9 in two seasons as head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions.

As head coach for Penn State he was named the Paul "Bear" Bryant Coach of the Year, Maxwell Coach of the Year, AT&T ESPN Coach of the Year and Big 10 Coach of the Year in 2012 after going 8-4 in his first year in Happy Valley.

The Alabama job will be his first stint back in college since leaving Penn State in 2013.
