Northport Councilman Announces Earth Day Recycling Challenge
Northport City Councilman Jeff Hogg announced Wednesday morning that he is issuing a challenge to the residents of his city.
In the spirit of Earth Day, Hogg wants to bolster support for Northport's free curbside recycling program with a friendly competition. Each district is being challenged to sign up as many new curbside recycling participants as possible between now and midnight on Earth Day, which is Thursday, April 22.
Hogg teased the announcement on his Facebook page, rallying his constituents to get excited for the 10 a.m. "challenge" reveal.
To sign up for the program, residents can send their address to Hogg through his Facebook post, direct message on Facebook, or by email at jhogg@cityofnorthport.org. The Northport Public Works Department will drop off a free recycling bin at the address provided.
Hogg added that recycling routes follow the same schedule as the city's garbage and trash pickup.
For those who already participate in curbside recycling, Hogg suggested these ways to get in on the competition:
- Tell your friends
- Tell your neighbors
- Share this post on your page
- Share this post to your neighborhood page
- Challenge your street
- Challenge your neighborhood
Participants can track whether their district is in the lead by checking the City of Northport Facebook Page at the end of each day.
