Hartley said half an acre of wooden pallets caught fire and that five different fire departments have been called to assist the Green Pond Volunteer Fire Department, including the Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service and the Hagler Volunteer Fire Department.
Hartley says crews remain on site.
Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles, mingling with the haze created by a controlled burn in the Talladega National Forest.
