If you listen to my shift each night between 8 pm-12 am, you know I'm a fan of a good cover song. That is no secret.

For me, there's something about another musician's take on another's song. I'm not talking about the cover songs you here that are exactly like the original, just with another vocalist. I'm talking about an aged Johnny Cash taking direction from Rick Rubin and doing a gritty acoustic cover of Soundgarden's Rusty Cage with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers backing him up! I'm talking about Charles Bradley adding much-needed soul and emotion to Black Sabbath's heartbreak anthem Changes.

Those two are on my list for sure, but there are many others. Check them out...

1. Johnny Cash covering Hurt by Nine Inch Nails.

2. Jeff Buckley's amazing cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Buckley did this one so well, most first time listeners think it's his song!

3. Alien Ant Farm blasting through Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal!

4. Iggy Pop taking on Harry Nilsson's classic Everybody's Talkin'.

5. The Interrupters banging out a rocking cover of Billie Eilish's Bad Guy!

6. Bluegrass brain-child Chris Thile blowing everyone's mind with his rendition of the White Stripes' Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground!

7. Lucy Dacus stuck close to Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark but it still feels modern and pulls the song out of its 80's shell!

8. Imelda May taking Soft Cell's Tainted Love and breaking it down rockabilly style!

9. Iron & Wine adding even more emotion to Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time.

10. Dinosaur Jr. remaking The Cure's Just Like Heaven is absolute bliss!

Other honorable mentions include Lucero covering Alabama's The Closer You Get, The Cowboy Junkies' Sweet Jane, The Civil Wars' Billie Jean, Ripe doing The Kinks' classic Lola, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals take on Alice in Chains' Down In a Hole, The Vandoliers I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), 311's Love Song, Florence, AL's Carver Commodore covering Bad Guy, and more!
