In "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" news today, a photo of a baby left alone in a parking lot is sparking controversy on Facebook. The photo shows a little baby abandoned in a car with a note and a cell phone number that read, "My mum's in doing the shopping; call her if I need anything." Excuse me while I have a ragestroke.

The pic was snapped Saturday in New Zealand by a concerned bypasser. He said that he saw the baby and waited near the car for a few seconds, thinking the mother would be back momentarily. He and his wife stood near the car before snapping a pic and posting it to Facebook in an attempt to identify the drop-and-shop momma.

The fact that someone could abandon a baby, a sweet, helpless baby, makes me crazy with mommyrage. I get what it's like to be busy, OK?  I work a full-time job and am a full-time mom. Going to the grocery alone is like a vacation for me. That's sad--but true. I value my "me" time, but it would and will NEVER come at the expense of my child.

I know I am one of those neurotic first-time moms who overdoes it on the "safety" thing. I still sanitize any paci that's dropped out of Dolly's mouth. I never leave her alone--even for a second. I could never ditch her in the car while I went shopping. What if she needed me? What if she coughed or choked or something worse? And what if she got too hot inside the car?

Maybe the mom was planning on running in and our of the store quickly--who knows? I can only guess as to what her motives were. I hate to sound judgmental, but who leaves a baby alone--in a car? Seriously? And what kind of woman has the ovaries to not only leave her baby alone in a car--but to leave the baby with a note addressed to passersby? Like, "Hey, I am in shopping, so this baby is y'all's problem now! LOL! Call me, maybe?"

No way. This woman needs to be found and sentenced to some serious parenting classes. Everyone makes mistakes, but COME ON.
