Theatre Tuscaloosa To Hold Open Auditions for Musical
Theatre Tuscaloosa has announced that they will hold open auditions on December 4 for the musical “Ragtime.”
The organization's website described the musical as a "volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York.” It combines the storylines of “a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant, and a daring, young Harlem musician” who confront what it means to live in America.
Theatre Tuscaloosa performed this musical back in 2017, but is bringing it back for a limited run in January. "Many of the original 2017 cast are returning for this concert-style production, but there are still some spots to fill,” director Tina Turley said. “I would love to see that stage filled with as much talent as we can to sing this glorious music!”
Auditions will take place on December 4, 6-9 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal hall at the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. The musical has roles available for adults of any gender and race.
The website stated performers would be auditioning for roles of some principal characters. Additionally, Theatre Tuscaloosa expressed a need for singers to make up a full chorus, since "many of the songs require a multitude of voices."
Theatre Tuscaloosa encouraged all actors "to audition using 16 measures of a song for which their voice is ideally suited." The audition may also include cold reads, but no dancing. More details and advice for actors can be found on the organization's website.
The musical will have two showings at the Bama Theatre:
- Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
- Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.
More details about "Ragtime" and other upcoming shows can be found on the Theatre Tuscaloosa website.
