Flashback Friday: St. Patrick’s Day Edition

As we head into a Saint Patrick's Day weekend in Tuscaloosa, we shine the Flashback Friday spotlight on the holiday! As we do each week, a throwback song is featured. This time, something to get in the spirit.

Naturally, you would begin the St. Patrick's Day song search with the biggest groups to come out of Ireland. The first two which come to my mind, are the Cranberries and U2. Neither of them really have a song to capture the spirit of sharing green beers with friends.

I then expanded the search across the Irish Sea to England. This is the home for Chumbawamba. These guys have a song that fits. Oh yeah, from back in the 90s, 'Tubthumping.' The 1997 song went Top 10 with its pub festive lyrics like these:

He drinks a whiskey drink, he drinks a vodka drink. He drinks a lager drink, he drinks a cider drink. He sings the songs that remind him of the good times. He sings the songs that remind him of the better times.
