The Alabama Department of Transportation is performing routine maintenance on Lurleen Wallace Boulevard (Highway 69) near the Hugh Thomas Bridge.

If you are like me, this how you cross the Black Warrior River daily.  Then, you know how traffic can and does get backed up on this bridge. Add road work and the snail crawl is on! A heads up on the road work going on through Friday, between 8am and 4pm.

The DOT advisory says work will be taking place in the right and center lanes in the northbound direction. Look out for stationary and slow moving vehicles in these work zones. Pretty tough for traffic flow with a stationary vehicle.

You may want to consider your options, if you don't have an extra 15 to 30 minutes to spare in traffic. There's McFarland Boulevard (Highway 82). Oh, don't forget the Western Bypass toll bridge. There's never a traffic backup there. Is it because the road is out of the way. Maybe, it is because of that stinkin' toll to cross the little bridge. I live out by County High School and it wouldn't be out of the way for me to take this route daily. But, you know what? I don't want to pay the toll. Does that make me a cheapskate?

Instead, I continue to roll along Lurleen Wallace Boulevard to I-359. Now, there's where the road crew needs to go next, I-359! 35th street to Skyland in either direction, it's ROUGH! This stretch of road boldly reminds me to change the shocks!! I've learned to not be drinking anything through this stretch or gravel or I'll be wearing it.

Happy driving from your pal, Greg.
