Elsa Downgraded to a Tropical Storm, Possible Impacts to Southeast

Elsa has been downgraded to a tropical storm. Trends indicate that the strength of Elsa will become weaker as the tropical storm continues in a west-northwest direction.

Elsa was downgraded to a tropical storm this morning. Now, granted, the makeup of Elsa is just right below a category one hurricane. Therefore, it is still a strong tropical storm. However, trends indicate that the strength of Elsa will become weaker as the tropical storm continues in a west-northwest direction.

I know many Alabamians take summer vacations to various parts of Florida, so I wanted to share some (at the moment) insight on tracking time that could impact different sections of Florida. Impacts will be based on Elsa’s strength as it has interaction over Cuba and into southern Florida.

South Florida – you could experience Tropical storm conditions starting as early as Monday morning.

Central Florida – the timeline shows movement to your area by late Monday evening – Tuesday morning.

Georgia, the Carolinas, and South East Corner of Alabama – the timeline is from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist note that there should be “no direct impact to Alabama or the Central Gulf Coast (Gulf Shores, Pensacola, Destin, and Panama City Beach)."
