I'll be straight with you: I couldn't care less which team actually wins on Sunday. I watch the Super Bowl for two reasons--commercials and party food. I welcome any chance to make and consume party food in excess. Get your big game party on with one of my favorite recipes: Hot Ham and Cheese Sliders.

We've been making these ham and cheese sliders for years. As a kid, I even refered to them as "Hamlets." (Witty, right?) I used to bust out our copy of Calling All Cooks and follow the recipe to a T. In recent years, the recipe has become less and less organized as I become a cook who uses a "dash of this" and a "pinch of that" as terms of measurement. Does that mean I am one step closer to earning my Southern Belle Card? I hope so...

I can't find my copy of Calling All Cooks lately; I suspect it has literally fallen apart from over-usage... but luckily for us, Drag It Through The Garden has a pretty spot-on recipe on her lovely blog. (I use those Flowers rolls that come in their own baking tin because that's how we lazy girls roll.)  Her recipe is as follows:

Ingredients:

  • 1 package or 24 dollar rolls
  • 1/2 lb. sliced deli ham
  • 1/4 lb. sliced Swiss cheese
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 4 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. poppy seeds
  • 2 tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Slice rolls in half to make a bun. Distribute ham and cheese evenly amongst the sandwiches. Place in a baking dish.

Combine melted butter, brown sugar, poppy seeds, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Pour evenly over the sandwiches in the baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sauce has slightly hardened. Makes 24 sandwiches.
