Alabama Women’s Basketball Takes Down Auburn 67-55
The home team continues to emerge victorious in Coleman Coliseum this weekend. Men's basketball, gymnastics, and now women's basketball have gotten the job done for the Crimson Tide at home.
In the Iron Bowl of women's basketball, Alabama never trailed despite being out-rebounded by the Tigers and having no points scored off the bench.
Redshirt Senior Point Guard Jordan Lewis got things going for the Tide. She played all 40 minutes, scoring 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Lewis also added 8 rebounds and 8 assists.
Senior Forward Ariyah Copeland also added 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
Offensive efficiency, player conditioning, and good defensive play kept Alabama in front. Auburn only shot 35.5% from the field, while the Tide shot 46.4%. Alabama was able to keep their most experienced players on the court for the vast majority of the game providing them with consistent production.
The Crimson Tide move to 12-2 on the season, 5-2 in SEC play. They are now tied with Texas A&M and Tennessee for second place in the SEC, two games back from the first place South Carolina Gamecocks. Auburn maintains their last place spot in the SEC standings.
It is undoubtedly an exciting time to be a Bama fan!
The Crimson Tide will continue their quest for first place and take on the number 12 Kentucky Wildcats this Thursday (1/28) in Lexington.
