Alabama Women’s Basketball Players Attend Leadership Summit

Alabama women’s basketball players, Megan Abrams and Jada Rice, attended the Black Student Athlete Summit held in Houston, Texas last week.

The Black Student Athlete Summit is a three-day power packed experience for student-athletes, coaches, administrators and professors.

The Black Student Athlete Summit is “the only event of its kind that caters to the holistic development of the Black Student-Athlete [and] the goal of the Summit is to empower Black Student-Athletes to maximize their college experience by killin’ it in the classroom and to not leave ‘any meat on the bone’ in terms of opportunities.”

After wrapping up her senior season at the Capstone, Abrams announced that she would be returning for a fifth-year in late March. In addition to her success on the court, the graduate student has made an impact in the community as well. Abrams earned a spot on the the 2021-22 SEC Community Service Team and was also named as a 2021-22 SEC Women’s Basketball Leadership Council representative.

Rice, a graduate student, spent her first two years of eligibility at North Carolina State before coming to Tuscaloosa this past year. Along with Abrams, Rice has made efforts to impact the community as well.

These two Crimson Tide players founded a registered club at the University of Alabama for student-athletes called Project I.D. The mission of Project I.D. is “to create a safe space for student-athletes who identify with, or are allies for, minority groups, giving them the opportunity to voice their thoughts and ideas to create an inclusive student-athlete experience.”

Both of these players continue to excel on and off the court. For these student-athletes, it truly means more.
