Alabama Lands In-State Five-Star
The Crimson Tide is on a roll at the end of June.
Tony Mitchell, five-star cornerback out of Thompson High School in Alabaster, announced his commitment to Alabama Sunday night just days after placing the Tide in his top-four schools.
Mitchell is the No. 2 ranked player in the state of Alabama and is teammates with first ranked Peter Woods, who also holds an offer from the Crimson Tide.
247Sports' Cooper Petagna calls Mitchell a, "Long reactionary defensive back with fluid hips that transitions smoothly in and out of breaks."
"Displays good patience and suddenness as a man to man slot defender. Possesses above average play speed. Could see a natural progression to a deep middle defender or as a nickel from his corner position," Petagna said in his analysis of Mitchell.
Standing at 6-foot-2, 180 lbs. Mitchell has a long, slender frame that he uses to effectively break up passes in deep coverage sets.
In his three seasons at Thompson, the rising senior has been a part of three state championship teams, playing a major role on all three.
Mitchell is now the seventh player from the 2023 class to commit to the Crimson Tide, and the second five-star, joining Jahlil Hurley out of Florence, AL.
