Have you been to the downtown Cordova area lately? Nobody has. The downtown area is surrounded by fence and locked up. Today, I came across this disturbing video clip from the Associated Press, featuring an interview with Mayor Drew Gilbert of Cordova and shows a shocking current view of this historic downtown. It looks untouched since an EF-4 tornado severely damaged the area on April 27, 2011. Apparently, the city is still awaiting FEMA funds to begin demolition and rebuilding. Once a home to the city hall, police station, grocery store, bank and the old Tallulah Bankhead hotel, eighteen months later the rebuilding waits as this downtown looks like a ghost town.
