Goldie Blox, y’all! I’ve ordered two sets, and my daughter can’t even sit up yet.

When Standford Engineer Debbie Sterling launched a project on Kickstarter a few months ago, she had no idea her project would be fully funded in just a matter of weeks. Her idea: Goldie Blox, a toy designed to foster a love of engineering and problem solving in young girls.

Goldie Blox is so cool; it comes with a book and a playset. The book tells the story of Goldie and the challenges she faces, and girls get to use the playset to build tools to help solve Goldie’s problems. While there’s nothing wrong with playing dress up and all those other “girly” things, I love the idea of encouraging little girls to learn through play—especially when they’re learning such crucial skills about problem solving and spacial relationships.

The mission statement from Goldie Blox’s website tells you everything you need to know about why this toy is so important: “Engineers are solving some of the biggest challenges our society faces. They are critical to the world economy, earn higher salaries and have greater job security. And they are 89% male. We believe engineers can’t responsibly build our world’s future without the female perspective. We are here to bring the female voice into engineering.”

Ah-mazing.  I am buying one for every girl I know. Check out the company launch video below to learn more about Goldie Blox.
