Wrestling’s Greatest Manager, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan Passes Away
I received word last night that one of my Personal All-Time Heroes, and The Greatest Wrestling Manager EVER, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan had passed away.
I grew up watching Bobby when I was a little boy up in Joliet, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago), when he was a Manager in the old AWA (American Wrestling Association), every Sunday Morning on Channel 26, and Channel 44 in Chicago, on "Bob Luce's Championship Wrestling TV Show". Bobby was such a Fantastic Villain that you just couldn't help but LOVE, because he was SO Damn Funny! In the 80's he went on to gain worldwide fame as a Manager and later TV commentator for The WWF (World Wrestling Federation), and WCW (World Championship Wrestling).
I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few different occasions, and he was simply HYSTERICAL and one of The NICEST men you would ever hope to meet.
And there's an Alabama connection. His daughter attended and graduated from The University Of Alabama, where I bumped into him a couple times. Here's a picture he signed for me, (which is one of my prized possessions). The inscription says, "To Louie Linguini, If I ever Manage Again, It's You".
God Bless You Bobby, and Your Family. You probably have Heaven in stitches right now. R.I.P. Sir
