Ask any child what they want for Christmas and they will light up with a list of gifts! We thought it would be fun to compare what kids want now compared to then. Instead of digging back a decade, we go back a century. Kids in 2013 vs. Kids in 1913. The difference may make you think how materialistic we are today, it may make you think how lame and boring those wish list gifts were. If you are like me, you will think a combination of both!

Thanks to the people at MyHeritage for compiling the comparison.

2013: Here's what kids are asking Santa for this year (based on estimates by leading retailers (Toys'R'Us, Target, Walmart and Argos)

1.Furby Boom
2.Teksta Robotic Puppy
3.LeapPad Ultra
4.Flying Fairy
5.Big Hugs Elmo
6.Barbie Dream House
7.Giggly Monkey
8.Nerf Gun
9.Ninja Turtles
10.Lego

1913: What kids asked for 100 years ago (based on research on "Dear Santa letters," found in the historical newspaper collections on SuperSearch)

1.Candy
2.Nuts
3.Rocking horse
4.Doll
5.Mittens/Gloves
6.Toy Train
7.Oranges
8.Books
9.Hankerchiefs
10.Skates

Notice the simplicity of the 1913 list. Think of any child and what their reaction would be if you gave him or her a few oranges, a can of nuts and a fresh set of hankerchiefs for Christmas. Oh, the outrage would make for an instant viral video on YouTube. Thinking about it a little more, just about any adult would give you a memorable and animated response.
