West Alabama Community Program Gets Money To Weatherize Homes
Community Service Programs of West Alabama is a nonprofit community action agency whose goal is to improve the quality of living for low-income and vulnerable people in West Alabama. It's service areas include Sumter, Bibb, Choctaw, Hale, Greene, Lamar, Fayette, and Tuscaloosa counties. Governor Kay Ivey's office announced that more than $3.2 Million will be used to weatherize homes for people who need it in the state of Alabama. According to WBRC, CSP will receive almost $230,000 in funding from the state of Alabama to weatherize homes for residents.
As it stands, there is currently a long waiting list for residents who have already signed up for assistance with CSP. “The weatherization list, which provides for minor repairs and efficiency to a household is three years long. We do something in the neighborhood of about 50 homes now for all 10 counties,” said Cynthia Burton, the executive director of Community Service Programs of West Alabama. West Alabama residents can sign up to have CSP cover their weatherization costs by completing the application on their website here. Priority is given to the elderly and low-income households with children. You do not have to own your home to be considered for weatherization services with CSP. According to their FAQs page on their site, your landlord will be responsible for half of the costs and must agree to not raise the price of your rent for one year. This is great news for plenty of West Alabama residents, and definitely something lots of people should take advantage of.
