TSM to Host Socially-Distant Halloween Event

Townsquare Media (TSM) Tuscaloosa's eight radio stations will be hosting a drive-thru trick-or-treat event at Government Plaza on Oct. 31.

While the coronavirus pandemic has affected many aspects of everyday life, TSM's radio DJs plan to bring some smiles to an otherwise wacky Halloween. The station's talent will be dressed in costumes and will hand out candy to families in cars, all while remaining socially distanced.

“We know Halloween may be a little different this year, but the Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa team felt it was important for the children in our community to have a safe environment to grab candy in a socially-distanced, safe environment,” David DuBose, TSM Tuscaloosa’s market president, said in a press release. “Our team has a spectacular array of candy for the event.”

Townsquare’s spooky, socially-distant Halloween event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Participants are encouraged to showcase their best costumes and face masks. All trick-or-treating activities will take place from the safety of everyone’s vehicles (the release indicated that "cars, trucks and vans, plus motorbikes and bicycles are all acceptable modes of transportation").

Meg Summers, TSM Tuscaloosa's Director of Content and Co-Host of the Steve Shannon Morning Show on 95.3 The Bear, said the people of Tuscaloosa need a fun, safe way to celebrate the holiday season.

“2020 has been one of the toughest years I've ever had. I know the same is true for so many families, and that's why we are excited to host this event,” Summers said. “Our kids deserve a chance to experience the spooky fun that Halloween brings, and we're doing our part to make sure no one misses out.”

Trick-or-treaters will not be permitted to participate if they come on foot. Strict social distancing guidelines will be enforced, including protective mask wear.
