The Tide entered Wednesday night coming off a tough 74-71 loss to Duke in the Maggie Dixon Classic on Sunday.
Mercer entered the game with a 3-2 record, coming off of a 63-50 win over Gardner Webb.
Defense was the name of the game as both offenses struggled throughout the game. Alabama finished the game shooting 37.7% from the field while Mercer finished 32.3% from the field.
“We had some people come in and make plays in the first half and then we had some folks make plays in the second half,” said Alabama head coach Kristy Curry. “Just a combination of doing what we had to do [to] find a way to win a gutsy one.”
Megan Abrams led the way for the Tide with 17 points including four three-pointers. Two other Tide players scored in double figures including: Brittany Davis (13) and Jada Rice (12). Davis was one rebound shy of earning her third double-double of the season.
This was the second straight game Abrams led the Tide in scoring.
“As long as we play together as a team, stick together, [and] play with the plan that the coaching staff put in place, it’ll benefit us in the long run,” said Abrams.
Amoria Neal-Tysor led the Bears in scoring with 19 points. 48 points was a season low scored by the Bears.
The Tide outrebounded the Bears 42-39.
This game was the first of a five-game homestretch for the Tide.
Up next, Alabama (3-2) faces off against Western Carolina on Friday, Nov. 26th at 2 p.m. on the SEC Network Plus.
