Growing up, Green Day was constantly played on the rock station back home. What Green Day for me was a band that was the modern Rolling Stones with a more melodic sound. It was great to be surrounded by such a great band from an awesome station. My father and I would always be jammin' out to 'American Idiot', 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' or 'Wake me up when September ends'. But when they released the '21st Century Breakdown' album back in 2009 (my 8th grade year), it was like they rose from the ashes of the old grungy style of rock they played to more of a modern chill band.

They song represent change and understatement of the changing times, a young 13 year about to head into the hardest time of his life, high school.

When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins
One, twenty one guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, twenty one guns
Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I.

The lyrics are cold and hard at the same time, like a massive iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean
