The Tuscaloosa Area has its second game of the week affected by COVID-19 as the Northridge Jaguars (6-2, 3-2) have forfeited to the Hueytown Golden Gophers (3-4, 3-1). The Jaguars had an undisclosed amount of players in quarantine due to either contracting COVID-19 or being identified by contact-tracing to have come in contact with the virus.
The Northside Rams (5-1, 3-1) were scheduled to play the Curry Yellow Jackets (0-6, 0-3) in a Class 4A Region 5 contest on Thursday, Oct. 8. The matchup has now been cancelled by Curry due to COVID-19.
The Gordo Greenwave (3-0, 2-0) were victorious over the Northside Rams (3-1, 1-1) tonight 27-13 to claim the No. 1 spot in the Class 4A Region 5 standings.
The game was controlled from start to finish by Jay Todd's Wildcats thanks to an effective running game and capitalizing on timely turnovers. Star County High running back Damien Taylor rushed three touchdowns to give the Wildcats a 21-0 halftime lead. Taylor busted a 46-yard run on his final carry of the evening to put a stamp on an impressive week one performance, he rushed for 150 yards on the evening.
