Alabama Offensive Coordinator Steve Sarkisian has decided to remain in Tuscaloosa and withdraw his name for consideration for the University of Colorado’s vacant head coaching position. Sarkisian was widely believed to be the front runner for the job in Boulder but elects to stay in Tuscaloosa and coach the Tide and is expected to receive a sizable raise making him one of college football’s highest paid assistant coaches according to ESPN’s Chris Low.

Sarkisian was the primary recruiter for incoming freshman quarterback Bryce Young and played a pivotal role in securing Tua Tagovailoa’s commitment to the Crimson Tide in 2016. Sarkisian served as an offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide in 2016 and was promoted to offensive coordinator days before the 2017 National Championship Game. He left the Tide for two seasons to become the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Sarkisian enters his second year with the Crimson Tide after his 2019 unit finished fifth nationally in yards per game.

Sarkisian interviewed for the Colorado head coaching job earlier this week after another former Nick Saban assistant Mel Tucker left to take over at Michigan State. Sarkisian was scheduled to make $1.6 million as offensive coordinator but now will assuredly make more to stay with the Crimson Tide. With Sarkisian withdrawing his name for consideration former Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema now becomes the favorite to take over in Colorado.
