‘SNL’ Taps Melissa McCarthy to Host Super Bowl Saturday
We like to imagine that most folk would be busy with preparations for the big game even late into Saturday night, but 'SNL' will have an MVP of its own come Super Bowl weekend. 'The Heat' star Melissa McCarthy will make her third hosting turn on the 'SNL' stage come February 1, but who will join as musical guest?
That's the real question! According to Variety, no musical guest has yet been confirmed for McCarthy's third hosting gig, having been joined by Lady Antebellum in 2011 and Phoenix in April 2013. McCarthy is the third announced 'SNL' guest of 2014, behind Drake's double duty for the January 18 premiere, and 'The Wolf of Wall Street' star Jonah Hill's latest hosting gig alongside Bastille.
Apart from McCarthy's usually-reliable performance on the 'SNL' stage, no doubt viewers will still keep an eye out for the long-running sketch comedy show's first black female cast member since Maya Rudolph, the newly hired Sasheer Zamata. The NBC series also further bolstered its efforts to improve diversity by hiring black female comediennes LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones to the writing staff.
Melissa McCarthy's third 'SNL' turn should make for a fine means to kick off Super Bowl Sunday, but what say you? Which of the 'Mike & Molly' star's recurring bits do you most want to see reprised on February 1?
