There are plenty of options when it comes to places to run around Tuscaloosa. Here are 5 you should definitely try, if you haven't already!

Joined by Tuscaloosa Track Club President Ed Freeman, we break down why each is among the best.

Northport Levee: It's the other side of the Black Warrior River. It's also the lesser known, as there isn't as many people seen on the trail designed for foot traffic and bikes only. There is parking on 30th Street where the levee trail starts. I prefer parking at the adjacent Kentuck Park. There are restroom facilities there, if needed. The 1.5 mile paved path runs past The Levee restaurant and up to Rice Mine Road. You may decide to cross, as it will continue for another 1/2 mile. On the return, you could run down to the Oliver Lock and Dam, that's another mile. The complete round trip is approximately 6 miles.

Sokol Park: Just up Watermelon Road in Northport, jump off the pavement and take on the dirt trails!  If you take the main trail, it's about 4 miles long.  Ed admits the marking isn't exactly the best, which could add to your adventure.  If you're new to running this, don't sweat it about getting lost, as the paths circle back to the entrance.

UA Arboretum: Ed calls this, "one of the hidden gems in Tuscaloosa." The one time golf course is also used by the Alabama cross country team.  Roll Tide! The hilly grass area is wide open, and makes for a great option for a time run.

Tuscaloosa Riverwalk: This has quickly become a favorite in the area, and for good reason!  If you start at Manderson Landing (edge of campus) and continue to the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, that's 2 miles. Loop back and you have 4 miles in the books. The course serves up landmarks with the Tuscaloosa River Market, and Tuscaloosa Amphitheater.  Plus, the Black Warrior River and stretches of wooded paths.  Plus, there are lights for night running.  Another bonus comes during the holidays with the Tinsel Trail of decorated Christmas trees.

UA Campus: The beauty of this campus makes for a great run. Options include running around the Quad to the rec. center fields. Hit the streets and go by Bryant-Denny stadium and back around towards the hospital. There are plenty of sidewalks to keep you off the road.  However, there are plenty of intersections too, just keep an eye out on the cars and enjoy.  Roll Tide!

Okay, you've been reading about the locations. It's time to see them and more comments from our expert, Ed.
