‘Reno 911!’ Will Return With a New Season on Quibi
It’s been a full decade since a new episode of Reno 911! graced the cable airwaves of Comedy Central; the series finale premiered on July 8, 2009. But in the immortal words of Luke Skywalker, no one’s ever really gone — especially not in the landscape of modern television, where every beloved TV show gets at least one shot at a revival. Which means, get your dangles dongling; Reno 911!’s coming back.
A seventh season for the show has been greenlit for release on Quibi, the streaming service focusing on shortform content. The press release says that series creators and stars Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver, and Thomas Lennon (who played the immortal Lt. Jim Dangle) are all attached to write and star in the new season.
Here’s Lennon’s comment on the news:
RENO 911! holds a special place in our hearts, and it will be a delight to get the original cast back together for ‘re-boot goofin.’ Hopefully Nick Swardson can still roller skate. Quibi’s short format seems custom made for our show.
Rumors have persisted about a Reno revival before; at one point Netflix was supposedly interested in bringing the show back, but things never quite worked out until now. Quibi, which is expected to launch in April of next year, has already announced series from Steven Spielberg, Justin Timberlake, and others.
