PARA Closes Tuscaloosa Parks, Ol’ Colony, Northport & County Facilities Open
The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority is closing all its parks in the city of Tuscaloosa, the Ol' Colony Golf Course and more until April 17th, a spokesperson announced Friday afternoon.
Becky Booker, PARA's public information officer, said that following guidance from the Alabama Department of Public Health and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, the following facilities and parks will be temporarily closed until April 17th:
- All PARA Centers and programming, including sports
- Tuscaloosa City Parks
- PARA Park Restrooms
- PARA Playgrounds
- Ol’ Colony Golf, effective close of business March 28
- Tuscaloosa Tennis Center, effective close of business March 28
Booker said PARA Parks and green spaces in Northport and Tuscaloosa County will remain open every day from dawn until dusk, so long as all participants, staff and visitors maintain social distancing of at least six feet.
"We ask that you use good judgement so as not to expose others to your germs. As with any flu illness, we encourage anyone who exhibits flu-like symptoms, signs of respiratory illness or fever to please stay home unless seeking medical treatment," Booker said. "We are advising adults ages 60 and over or those with a compromised immune system to be more cautious. We advise everyone to keep personal space or physical distance of at least six feet between other people."
