According to their website, the Honda Sport Award "acknowledges athletic achievement as well as scholastics and community involvement, and is given to female athletes in 12 different NCAA-sanctioned sports throughout the year... Each Honda Sports Award winner is recognized as the top collegiate female athlete in her sport, and the award is considered by many as one of the highest honors a female college athlete can receive in the nation."
Fouts is coming off a career season, with a 27-3 record, 1.43 ERA and recorded 344 strikeouts, also pitching a perfect game in the WCWS against the UCLA Bruins, the fifth time in the WCWS history. She won the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Year and SEC Tournament MVP, along with being a First Team All SEC.
Fouts is only the fourth nominee from Alabama with great company beside her. The previous nominees from UA are: Hayley McCleney in 2015-2016, Jackie Traina in 2011-2012, and Kelly Kretschman in 2000-2001. If chosen, she would be the first winner from the University in the 45-year history of the award.
Other awards given out by the CWSA are: Collegiate Athlete of the Year, Division II and III Athlete of the Year, The Honda Inspiration Award, The Irv Grossman Award of Merit and The Dr. Judie Holland Award.
The CWSA show will be on June 28th, 2021, at 8 p.m. CT on CBS Sports Network.
