A 22-year-old man was shot Sunday night as he left a store off Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in West Tuscaloosa, police said Monday morning.

Captain Kip Hart, the assistant commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the victim called police around 9:45 Sunday night and officers found him suffering a gunshot wound to "his lower extremities."

The victim said he was leaving a store when a suspect approached him and asked him to stop. The victim kept walking, and was shot as he tried to leave.

Hart said the victim was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment of wounds that were not life-threatening.

Right now, the VCU has not identified a suspect in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit or CrimeStoppers.
