Local Woman Charged With Selling Meth

A local woman was charged yesterday with selling meth, after a month long investigation into methamphetamine distribution, according to Tuscaloosa law enforcement officials.

Mattie Neal Newell, 29, of Northport, was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police. Authorities say that Newell works as a judicial assistant for Judge James Roberts at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse.

Tuscaloosa Police Department spokesperson Lt. Teena Richardson said Newell sold a quantity of methamphetamine to a confidential informant on two separate occasions. The actual amount of meth that was confiscated was not revealed at press time.

Newell was released from the Tuscaloosa County Jail after posting a $66,000 bond.
