Alabama inside linebacker Markail Benton has once again had his name removed from the online roster. Benton has reportedly not been around the team throughout this current offseason according to Al.com’s Matt Zenitz. Benton played in nine games in 2019 at inside linebacker and totaled 19 tackles.

Benton was a four-star prospect in the 2017 recruiting class, he was the fourth rated recruit in the state of Alabama, and the 100th rated recruit nationally according to 247Sports from Central High School out of Phenix City, Alabama.

Benton redshirted in 2017, in 2018 he appeared in 14 games as a rotational defender and a special-teamer and recorded 14 tackles. When Dylan Moses and Joshua McMillion went down with ACL injuries Benton was passed over for a starting role by freshman Christian Harris and Shane Lee.

This is the second time this offseason Benton’s name has been missing from the online roster according to Clint Lamb of USA Today, the first time occurring on February 18. Benton has not entered the transfer portal and it remains to be seen if Benton will transfer to another school or rejoin the Crimson Tide.
