Police in Northport are investigating after a pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a vehicle on McFarland Boulevard Friday evening.

Keith Carpenter, the assistant chief of the Northport Police Department, said officers responded to the 3000 block of McFarland Boulevard Friday around 5:30 p.m. Friday on reports of a traffic accident.

NPD officers, Northport Fire Rescue responders and NorthStar ambulance paramedics arrived on the scene to find a so-far-unidentified male pedestrian had been struck by a 2013 Ford Taurus in the westbound lanes of the highway.

Carpenter said the victim has been transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for treatment, and the accident is being investigated by NPD's Traffic Reconstruction Unit.

Carpenter said no criminal charges are pending at this time.
