Local Man Accused of Stabbing Ex’s New Boyfriend, Killing Dog
A suspect was arrested and charged Friday in an early morning stabbing near Moundville after police say he broke into the home of a previous ex in an attempt to kill her new boyfriend.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Captain Jack Kennedy said Nicholas Lynch, 29, drove to the house and broke in while the victim, the suspect's ex and her two children - both under the age of 12 - were all sleeping.
Authorities say the victim, a male, was stabbed multiple times during the altercation, even while attempting to escape the house Lynch had broken into. His wounds are non-life-threatening.
Though no injuries were reported for the ex-girlfriend, police said this afternoon that her two children were "assaulted" in the incident. The two children were found hiding in the home upon officers arriving.
He also allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend's dog to death in the assault, and it's unclear at this time if the animal came from her previous relationship with Lynch.
The suspect's vehicle was located a short distance from the home and - using canines and arial drones - he was apprehended in a wooded area shortly after officers were on scene.
Lynch is currently at the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond on charges of first-degree domestic violence-burglary, attempted murder, aggravated animal cruelty and two counts of third-degree assault.
