Fitness One Building in Northport to be Demolished to Prepare for New Entry
A former fitness center that sits on the property at the Northport Medical Center is being torn down to make room for a new attractive entry point to the hospital.
Andy North, vice president of marketing and communications for DCH Health System, told the Thread the "Fitness One" building was originally owned by a group of physicians and included medical offices and a fitness center with an indoor pool and racquetball courts.
North said DCH Health System later purchased the building, which was used for medical offices, included a computer training center and served as a monoclonal antibody infusion clinic for COVID positive patients.
Despite its previous uses, North said over the past few years it has become increasingly challenging to appropriately maintain the building and there are no plans to replace the facility.
"For now, the area will be cleared to make a more attractive frontage and offer the potential for future growth for DCH services in Northport," North said.
The building's interior demolition began in late March and the exterior demolition began last week. The demolition and beautification process is expected to be completed as soon as late summer or early fall.
