Tuscaloosa’s Catch A Taste Wing Joint Grows to Open Second Location Friday
A beloved Tuscaloosa wing joint is growing rapidly, opening a second location just more than two years after the grand opening of its original brick-and-mortar in Alberta.
The restaurant is owned and operated by DJ and Erica Grant, who first opened the Catch a Taste food truck in 2019. The truck grew in popularity, particularly during the lockdown days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2021, the Grants were able to open a physical restaurant on University Boulevard in Alberta.
After two years of growth in popularity and demand, they couple will celebrate the grand opening of a second location - this time in West Tuscaloosa - on Friday.
Erica Grant told the Thread the new location opens Friday at 2601 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in west Tuscaloosa.
Grant said the new restaurant will feature the wings and other classics that food truck and first location are loved for, and will also introduce new concepts like an experimental chicken finger and brunch offerings on Sunday from 12 noon until 3 p.m.

"After we opened, we've had a lot of different options for different places, a lot of opportunities, but this one was special," Erica Grant said. "At the new place, we'll have a lot of walkers, people can walk to eat here or walk to work here, and we'll be right at the center of the community, around churches and schools and more, it's the perfect place for me."
The new location will also offer 60-cent wings on Wednesdays and half off their signature alcoholic beverages, mirroring a special that runs on Sundays at the Alberta eatery.
"Thank you to the community, thank you to all the different plant workers and folks coming from different night clubs that used to help us along the way, dropping by the food truck at 2 or 3 in the morning," Grant said. "You know, word-of-mouth got us here, so did the Tuscaloosa City Schools, who call out sometimes to feed staff."
Grant said she and DJ know what it's like to struggle and to experience this kind of growth and success is allowing them to help others when the opportunity arises, like providing wings free of charge to local football and basketball teams on big nights.
"Once we couldn't even feed our family, and now we can feed football teams all because of our community supporting us," Grant said. "It’s been a struggle at times, but its been an overwhelming blessing, too."
Catch a Taste cuts the ribbon on their West Tuscaloosa location at 11:30 Friday morning.
