Some schools in West Alabama are planning to close early Tuesday afternoon as potentially severe storms approach the area.

As of 11 a.m. Thursday, no schools in Tuscaloosa County have elected to dismiss early, but others in our listening and readership area have done so.

TUSCALOOSA CITY SCHOOLS

All Tuscaloosa City Schools will cancel after-school activities today, but as of 11 a.m., they have not decided to dismiss early.

"The Tuscaloosa City Schools will be cancelling all after-school events and activities, including extended day, due to predicted weather for our area this afternoon. We continue to watch forecasts closely."

SHELTON STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Due to the threat of severe weather predicted for the Tuscaloosa area, Shelton State Community College will close early on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2:30 p.m.  This closure includes both campuses.  All activities scheduled after this time are canceled.

Additional information will be provided via the College’s website, SSCC Alert, and social media as necessary.

FAYETTE COUNTY SCHOOLS

All Fayette County Schools will dismiss at 1 p.m.

WALKER COUNTY SCHOOLS

The Walker County Schools will dismiss at 1 p.m. and cancel all after-school activities

JASPER CITY SCHOOLS
