ALDOT to Replace Bridge in Cottondale, US-11 to Close in June & July
The Alabama Department of Transportation will soon begin fully replacing the US-11 / Skyland Boulevard East bridge over railroad tracks in Cottondale, which will lead to lane closures this summer.
John McWilliams, an ALDOT spokesperson in West Alabama, said they will replace and widen the bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad near Clearview Hill Drive in Cottondale.
The new bridge will be wider than the existing one, with one lane in each direction and a dual left-turn lane as well as a sidewalk will on the east side of the bridge.
Work begins a week from now on January 15th and is expected to last at least through this Fall, but McWilliams said traffic impact should be limited as the new bridge will be built adjacent to the existing one.
The only closure expected is for two months from June through July. McWilliams said during those summer months, a full road closure will occur and traffic will have to use alternate routes.
The $6.2 million project was awarded to Newell & Bush, a Montgomery company.
