Be a Part of Tuscaloosa’s SCLC ‘Unity Day’ March and Events

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) is a civil rights organization that was founded in 1957 by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Bayard Rustin, Ralph Abernathy, Fred Shuttlesworth, and others.” This was an effort to have a regional organization that could better coordinate civil rights protest activities across the South,” according to the National Park Service.

According to the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the SCLC's press release, they invite everyone to “come out and help celebrate the life, legacy, and birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.”

Tuscaloosa’s SCLC 2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Unity Day” Celebrations

The Unity Breakfast at Beulah Baptist Church

The church is located at 3100 25th St, Tuscaloosa

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

The keynote speaker will be the Honorable Judge Ricky McKinney, Pastor of the Weeping Mary Missionary Baptist Church.

Noon

March for Justice

The Unity March will begin at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School and Beulah Baptist Church and end at City Hall. Everyone participating in the parade is asked to line up at 11:30 a.m. The school is located at 2430 Martin Luther King Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401

4 p.m.

Rally and Stand for Justice

The Mass Rally will be held at First African Baptist Church at 2621 Stillman Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.

The keynote speaker will be Reverend Dr. Lonnie Weaver, Pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
