The Top 3 States Alabama Residents Are Flocking To
We may call it Sweet Home Alabama, but some folks living in this great state are ready to get the heck out of here.
Summer is peak moving season time. In honor of that, here's recent census data that reveals the states where Alabamians want (and DON'T want) to move.
Starting off with the four states Alabamians avoid like the plague, with ZERO moves on record:
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Rhode Island
- Wyoming
Can you believe that? More people moved to PUERTO RICO than any of these states!!
But what states send us the most new Alabamians? Mostly those in the southeast, but also thousands of travelers from Michigan, Indiana and even more than three thousand from California!
For anyone interested in moving to Yellowhammer State, U.S. News listed these as the best places to live:
Huntsville
Home of the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and the fastest growing city in Alabama
Birmingham
The Iron City, recent host of the World Games, and Alabama's largest commercial center.
Montgomery
Alabama's state capital and the center of the Civil Rights Movement
Despite these great cities, sometimes it just isn't enough. Here are the sad, sad places that Alabamians are leaving us for:
#3. Tennessee
Residents who moved from Alabama to Tennessee in 2021: 9,869
#2. Florida
Residents who moved from Alabama to Florida in 2021: 15,159
#1. Georgia
Residents who moved from Alabama to Georgia in 2021: 22,228
Florida has been the most popular state in past years, but apparently a few national championship wins have put Georgia in the lead.
Here's hoping that Nick Saban takes the team to victory this year so we can get a few back!
