Severe Weather Expected Across Central Alabama

The Townsquare Media Weather Center is keeping you up to date on the possibility of severe weather. A storm system will bring widespread rain and potentially severe weather to the area from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.

Risk Areas

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a "slight" risk (level 2/5) for severe thunderstorms, while the majority of the rest of the state is under a "marginal" (level 1/5) risk for most of Friday and into Saturday morning.

According to James Spann of ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media's Chief Meteorologist, "The main concern with this event is heavy rain and some potential flooding; a flash flood watch is in effect for much of the state. Parts of Central Alabama could receive over 4 inches of rain over the next 24 hours."

Timing

Heavier storms should exit Southeast Alabama by 8-9 a.m, Spann says. Other than a few lingering showers during the morning, the bulk of tomorrow is looking rain-free. We might even see some clearing by afternoon as drier air begins to work into the state.

Future Temperature Outlook

There will be a noticeable difference on Sunday and at the start of next week, as the lows will dip back down into the 30s.
