Local Resident Identified After Being Found in Burned House
The remains of a Cottondale man found in a burned house in May have been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner's office verified Friday that Rodney Maurice Walker Jr. was found in a burned home in Birmingham in May.
Walker was born in Northport, Alabama and attended Holt High School before going to the University of Alabama. At the time of his passing, Walker was 25 years old and a resident of Cottondale.
The authorities were sent to a house fire call May 22 on Old Lewisburg Road. When firefighters arrived at the location, the house was in full blaze.
Once the fire was put out, a body was discovered in the remains of the home. After an autopsy, it was determined that the victim had been shot. Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates confirmed to AL.com that Walker had been shot before the blaze started.
