HGTV Star Set to Give Keynote Speech at Stillman College Graduation
It is officially graduation season in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Stillman College is set to celebrate the 2024 commencement of 120 graduates who have completed degrees in 15 different fields of study, with 69 percent graduating with honors. The graduation ceremony starts at 9 a.m. on May 11, 2024, at the college's Tiger Stadium.
The graduation ceremony will be highlighted by a keynote speech from Mrs. Egypt Sherrod, the celebrated host and executive producer of HGTV's hit series "Married To Real Estate," and the Indigo Road Family of Companies CEO.
In honor of her remarkable entrepreneurial skills and her dedication to imparting her knowledge and expertise, Stillman College will award Mrs. Sherrod an honorary doctorate.
Sherrod expressed gratitude for the recognition. "It is an immense honor to receive an honorary doctorate from such a prestigious institution as Stillman College,” said Sherrod. “Its dedication to enriching the lives of its students, faculty, and staff, as well as its deep historical roots, marks this as one of the proudest and most memorable moments in my career.”
Sherrod’s “accomplishments reach beyond business. An NAACP Image Award nominee and philanthropist, Egypt champions social good and inspires future leaders. But before captivating television audiences, Egypt dominated the airwaves as a radio broadcaster, interviewing legends like Oprah Winfrey,” according to a Stillman College Facebook post.
According to a Press Release from Stillman College, “In addition to Sherrod, Stillman College will confer honorary degrees upon Jefferson County Commissioner Lashunda Roberts Scales, the first woman to hold the District 1 seat in the Jefferson County Commission, and Dr. Donald W. Comer, Staff Vice President for Decision Science and Analytics at FedEx and HBCU Advocate. Comer also serves as Chairman of the Stillman College Board of Trustees. The ceremony will continue Stillman’s tradition of honoring the Golden Class, alumni from the class of 1974.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of our 2024 graduating class alongside the remarkable contributions of Mrs. Egypt Sherrod, Commissioner Lashunda Roberts Scales, and Dr. Donald W. Comer,” said Dr. Yolanda W. Page, president of Stillman College. “Their dedication and leadership serve as a beacon of inspiration for our graduates as they embark on their own journeys, and we are equally excited about celebrating the return of our Golden Class.”
