Could it Be “Prime Time” in Tuscaloosa for the Crimson Tide?
This past Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium was electrifying for both Alabama and Texas fans. Unfortunately for the Crimson Tide, though, it was not to be a night for victory. Alabama fell to the Longhorns, 34-24.
Several questions have been raised with the Tide’s recent loss about the remaining games on the schedule, and what the future may hold for the Alabama program.
Some in the media have even thrown out a possible head coach replacement - like ESPN’s Matthew Barrie and Paul Finebaum talking about the possibility of Deion Sanders stepping in at The Capstone.
'Coach Prime' is no stranger to the game of football, going in the first round of the 1989 NFL draft. Sanders spent over 15 years in the NFL playing for the Atlanta Falcons, San Fransico 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, the then Washington Redskins and finishing his career with the Baltimore Ravens.
Sanders began his college coaching career at Jackson State University, winning a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) title in 2021. In December of 2022, Deion took over as the Head Coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffs are currently 2-0 in 2023.
As reported by Saturday Down South, Matthew Barrie made the comment, “If I’m one of the most powerful teams in the country and a coaching switch is in the cards, Deion Sanders is my number one call, and I am not even thinking of it,”
Per ESPN's reporting, analyst Paul Finebaum responded to Barrie’s comment with, “They’re all nice coaches, but none of them have the star power, Quite frankly, not even Nick Saban has the star power that Deion Sanders does right now.”
Despite Saturday’s loss, the season is far from over for Saban and the Crimson Tide; and Sander’s name will be associated with bigger coaching jobs in the very near future.
